Huntsville Factory To Expand Chinese Company’s North American Market Presence

Chinese solar PV manufacturer Runergy’s US presence Runergy Alabama Inc. has commissioned its maiden module factory in the country in Huntsville, Alabama. It will now scale up production to achieve an annual nameplate output of 2 GW with n-type technology.

Runergy Alabama called it the 1^st solar panel production facility of its kind in Alabama. The state-of-the-art solar module manufacturing facility will begin producing its 1^st customer order in October 2025.

It is aligned with the manufacturer’s plans to expand into the North American market, establish a robust domestic supply chain, and represents an important addition to its globalization strategy, stated the management.

“With the increasing demand for solar energy in the U.S., We aim to meet the country’s renewable energy targets by producing our solar modules locally,” said Runergy’s Managing Director, Dr. Jusong Wang. “Runergy Alabama will reduce lead times, minimize reliance on overseas suppliers, and provide customers with more reliable, cost-effective access to our solar technology.”

A world leading Chinese solar cell manufacturer, Runergy ventured into the solar module production business. Currently, it has an annual production capacity of 55,000 tons of industrial silicon, 130,000 tons of polysilicon, 7 GW ingot, 10 GW wafer, 57 GW solar cells and 13 GW solar modules.

In August 2024, Chinese polysilicon-to-module maker Tongwei signed a capital increase intention agreement to acquire a majority stake in Runergy worth RMB 5 billion, with an aim to strengthen its manufacturing footprint in the overseas markets (see Tongwei Makes Offer To Acquire Majority Stake In Fellow Chinese Company).
