Trinasolar completes 70 MW PV power plant in Arabian Peninsula
Solar module manufacturer Trinasolar has announced that it has completed the construction of a 70 MW PV power station in the Arabian Peninsula, utilizing its advanced Vertex N 720W (NEG21C.20) series modules. Calling it a key milestone in the region’s energy transition, the project is said to enhance the electricity generation capacity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The company’s Vertex N 720W modules, featuring n-type i-TOPCon cell technology, offer a maximum power output of up to 720 W and an efficiency of 23.2%. Optimized for harsh desert conditions, the company claims these modules provide a lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) while demonstrating exceptional reliability, as confirmed by a top score in Kiwa PVEL’s testing.
Separately, Trinasolar has announced that its Vertex S+ n-type module series has passed the Norwegian and international Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification. The company said the certification had been reviewed and confirmed by TÜV Rheinland, successfully registering the product on the Norwegian and international EPD platforms.
Late last month, Trina Solar announced that it had orders on-hand worth RMB 36.269 billion ($4.99 billion) as of June 30, 2024 (중국 태양광 PV 뉴스 스니펫 참조).
Huasun expands market presence in Pakistan
Heterojunction (HJT) solar manufacturer Huasun Energy has announced that it has achieved the milestone of shipping over 100 MW of high-efficiency HJT photovoltaic (PV) modules to Pakistan. The company said it has collaborated with local partners like E-Group, DSG, ESL, and AE Power, securing significant agreements and distribution partnerships. It says further that its HJT modules, known for their high power output and efficiency, have been installed in various industrial projects, including textile mills. Pakistan’s favorable solar conditions and government incentives are driving rapid growth in the photovoltaic industry, with Huasun playing a key role in this expansion, said the company.
Huasun recently secured a bid to supply PV modules for SDIC’s 200 MW project in Shangyi County, Hebei Province (중국 태양광 PV 뉴스 스니펫 참조).
SEPECI announces 1 GW solar module tender results
Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Corp., Ltd (SEPECI) has announced the winning candidates for its 2024 annual solar module framework tender. The 1 GW solar module tender is divided into 3 sections: Section 1 for 500 MW of n-type TOPCon 182 bifacial modules, Section 2 for 300 MW of n-type TOPCon 210 bifacial modules, and Section 3 for 200 MW of n-type TOPCon rectangular modules.
Under Section 1, the shortlisted companies include Huayao PV, JinkoSolar, Astronergy, CECEP, and Risen Energy, with bid prices ranging from RMB 0.77 to 0.822 per watt ($0.11 to $0.114 per watt). For Section 2, the shortlisted companies are Tongwei Solar, Trinasolar, Jolywood, Huayao PV, and Canadian Solar, with bid prices ranging from RMB 0.78 to 0.82 per watt ($0.108 to $0.113 per watt). The shortlisted companies for Section 3 are Tongwei Solar, AIKO, Canadian Solar, Astronergy, and JA Solar, with bid prices ranging from RMB 0.8 to 0.83 per watt ($0.11 to $0.114 per watt).
Jolywood publishes Laser-Enhanced Contact Firing research results
n-type solar module manufacturer Jolywood has published research results titled Enhancing the Reliability of TOPCon Technology by Laser-Enhanced Contact Firing in the solar energy journal 태양 에너지 재료 및 태양 전지. As part of the research, Jolywood, in collaboration with the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of New South Wales, conducted systematic experiments to assess whether laser-enhanced contact sintering technology brings significant improvement to the reliability of TOPCon cells. Jolywood says that this research verified the significant improvement in the conversion efficiency of TOPCon cells using Jolywood’s unique Jet Streaming Injection Metallization (JSIM) technology. The JSIM technology uses specially designed electrode paste, which is said to not only enhance cell efficiency but also address the issue of thermal stability of TOPCon cell modules.
China’s solar & wind power capacity surpasses coal
According to renewable energy (RE) grid connection data from the National Energy Administration (NEA) for the first half of 2024, China’s. By the end of June, China’s cumulative RE generation capacity had surpassed that of coal-powered generation. The country’s RE power generation capacity reached 1.653 billion kW, accounting for approximately 53.8% of its total power generation capacity. Split into its constituents, 427 million kW came from hydropower, 714 million kW from solar, 467 million kW from wind, and 45.3 million kW from biomass. At 1.18 billion kW, the combined installed capacity of wind and solar has surpassed that of coal power (1.17 billion kilowatts).
