The global foldable smartphone market declined in Q4 2024. Shipments dropped to 3.8 million units, an 18% decrease from the previous year. Despite the decline, competition remains strong, with Huawei taking the lead.
Huawei Becomes the Market Leader

As reported by Mydrivers, for the first time, Huawei surpassed Samsung in market share. Huawei now holds 31.2%, while Samsung dropped to 26.7%, placing second. Honor secured third place with 14.3% of the market. Motorola remained fourth with 9.0%, thanks to the success of its Razr series.
Asia-Pacific Leads in Foldable Shipments
Asia-Pacific remains the largest market for foldable phones. The region accounted for 73% of total shipments. Leading brands in the region include Huawei, Honor, Samsung, vivo, and Xiaomi. Huawei dominates with a 42.5% market share, almost half of the total foldable sales in the region.
Huawei’s New Pocket 3 Expected to Boost Sales
Huawei is preparing to launch its new foldable phone, the Pocket 3, at the end of March 2025. This compact, clamshell-style device is popular, especially among female users. Leaks suggest it will be thinner, smaller, and lighter than previous models.
The Pocket 3 could further strengthen Huawei’s position in the foldable market. Its launch is expected to boost sales and widen the gap between Huawei and its competitors.
Competition to Intensify
The foldable smartphone market is evolving. Brands continue to innovate and attract new users. Huawei’s recent success puts pressure on Samsung and others to respond. The next few months will reveal whether Huawei maintains its lead or if Samsung makes a comeback.
