Google introduced its very first foldable smartphone last year in the form of the Pixel Fold 2. The device allows Android fans to experiment with Google’s view on foldable smartphones and how Android is evolving to improve the experience in these devices. The company is expected to keep its presence in this category with a new device this year. The upcoming device has been expected as the Pixel Fold 2, however, a new report suggests it has been renamed to be sold as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
PIXEL 9 PRO FOLD COMING IN OCTOBER ALONGSIDE PIXEL 9, 9 PRO, AND 9 PRO XL
Judging by this change, Google wants to reset people’s perception of its foldable smartphone series. With the new naming, the device will be on par with the current Pixel flagship generation. This also falls in line with the rumors of Google unveiling its next foldable in October and not at the Google I/O in May as it did with the Pixel Fold. With that in mind, we will see a big Pixel 9 series reveal in October. The company will bring the Pixel 9, and Pixel 9 Pro. The new additions are the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Pixel 9 Pro XL.
According to the reports, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are the rightful successors to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel 9 Pro will be an entirely new smartphone, it will bring a smaller size similar to the Pixel 9. However, it will have specs upgrades that are usually kept for the Pro variants. Finally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be the company’s next take on foldable technology. All four smartphones will have the new Tensor G4 SoC.
It is worth noting that the switch from Pixel Fold 2 to Pixel 9 Pro Fold took place very recently in internal Google communications. It is worth noting, however, that this is still subject to change and needs proper confirmation. For now, we digest this report with a pinch of salt and wait for more details.
